Step 1 – Open Command Prompt as Administrator

  1. Click the Start button

  2. Type Command Prompt

  3. Right-click Command Prompt

  4. Select Run as administrator

  5. If prompted, click Yes


Step 2 – Run the command

In the black Command Prompt window, type:

w32tm /query /status

Press Enter.


What we look for in the output

The key lines are:

  • Source
    (e.g. a domain controller or time.windows.com)

  • Last Successful Sync Time

  • Stratum

  • Clock Offset

A healthy result typically shows:

  • A valid time source (not “Local CMOS Clock”)

  • A recent successful sync time

  • A small clock offset (close to zero)
