Students may report that they cannot submit their subject preferences because the portal indicates they have reached their maximum unit limit, yet there are still required preference boxes that need to be completed.
This prevents submission and can occur when different maximum unit values are set across Parameters, individual student 'Unit' values, or Study Streams.
Why This Occurs
Preferences Manager uses several inputs to determine how many units a student is permitted to select:
Parameters (Task 1)
Sets the default minimum and maximum units for all students.Individual Student Settings (Task 3 – Students)
A student may have a custom maximum unit value assigned.
This overrides the value set in Parameters.Study Streams (Task 6 – Study Streams)
When a manager assigns a Study Stream, the stream’s minimum and maximum unit values override both Parameters and individual settings.
If the maximum unit value in any of these areas is lower than the number of units required by the preference groups, the student will be unable to submit.
