Summary
This error message occurs when attempting to import data from Excel or CSV into Timetabling Solutions V10.
You may also receive:

Resolution 1 – Install the Microsoft Access Database Engine
Before proceeding, check that the import file name does not contain punctuation such as colons (:) or multiple full stops (.), as these can prevent Timetabling Solutions from connecting to the file.
If the file name is correct, install the AccessDatabaseEngine2010 Redistributable.exe.
This component enables communication and data exchange between Microsoft Office file formats and third-party applications such as Timetabling Solutions.
The Access Database Engine:
- Works only with files stored on your computer.
- Does not communicate with the internet or expose any network services.
- Allows applications to read and write Microsoft Office file formats.
Although the 2010 edition is no longer updated, Microsoft continues to provide it because many business applications still depend on it. The Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 remains safe and suitable for use.
Installation Steps
- Close Timetabling Solutions V10 and all Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams).
- Download AccessDatabaseEngine2010 Redistributable.exe.
- Run the installer (administrator permissions are required).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
If you have a 64-bit version of Microsoft Office installed, you may be prompted to uninstall Office first.
If this occurs:
- Uninstall Microsoft Office.
- Install AccessDatabaseEngine2010 Redistributable.exe.
- Reinstall Microsoft Office.
Note: Uninstalling Microsoft Office does not remove your Office documents or data files.
If the issue persists after installation, download and run:
https://timetablingmainsite.blob.core.windows.net/productupdates/Version9/Accessdatabaseengine_x64.exe
- Restart your computer.
- Open Timetabling Solutions V10 and attempt the import again.
Resolution 2 – Check Your Default Printer
In some environments this error can also be caused by a problem with the default printer or printer driver.
We have identified cases where removing and reinstalling the printer resolved the import issue.
If installing the Microsoft Access Database Engine does not resolve the problem:
- Remove your default printer from Windows.
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall the printer using the latest driver supplied by the printer manufacturer.
- Attempt the import again.
This issue appears to be related to the Microsoft print components used by the underlying data access libraries.
Resolution 3 – Import as a Text File
If the problem only occurs when importing an Excel (.xlsx) file, convert the data to a text file.
- Save the Excel or CSV file as Text (Tab delimited) (*.txt).
- Open the Student Options file.
- Click Import Data and select the required import type.
- Select Text file (*.txt).
- Choose Tab as the field delimiter.
- Complete the import.
Why is this occurring?
The data access components used by the development framework for Timetabling Solutions V10 were updated between versions 10.0.1.516 and 10.0.1.517.
These components rely on Microsoft's data access and print infrastructure when establishing connections to Office data sources.
If the required Microsoft Access Database Engine is missing, or if Windows has an issue with its printer configuration or print subsystem, Timetabling Solutions may be unable to establish the connection required to import Excel or CSV data.
Microsoft Access Database Engine (ACE) 2010 provides the drivers and data providers that allow Timetabling Solutions V10 to communicate with Microsoft Office file formats, including:
- .xlsx
- .xls
- .docx
- .doc
Alternative
Timetabling Solutions V10 also supports importing students, teachers and rooms directly from Wonde.
Wonde securely synchronises data from your Student Information System (SIS) into Timetabling Solutions, eliminating the need for manual import files.
Wonde is ST4S assessed and ISO 27001 certified.
