Classic, Modern and Modern 26

Daily Organiser provides three interface options:

  • Classic – the original interface.

  • Modern – processes data on the user's computer rather than the server, providing improved performance on newer hardware.

  • Modern 26 – includes all Modern functionality, performance improvements, and the latest Daily Organiser features.

Which version should I use?

Performance depends on several factors, including your computer specifications, the size of your Daily Organiser dataset, the number of published timetables, and the number and duration of calendar activities.

In general:

  • Classic may perform better on older or lower-specification computers.

  • Modern is designed to take advantage of newer hardware by processing data on the user's computer.

  • Modern 26 includes performance improvements over Modern and is designed to provide faster response times, particularly when working with larger Daily Organiser datasets or datasets containing large numbers of calendar activities.

For the best experience with Modern or Modern 26, we recommend a computer with:

  • At least a 2-core processor running at 1.5 GHz or higher.

  • At least 8 GB of RAM.

What's new in Modern 26?

Modern 2026 includes all of the functionality available in Modern, plus support for the new Groups feature.

Groups are available in:

Groups allow related planned absences, casual staff and room availability to be organised together, making them easier to manage and review.

Upgrading a dataset to Modern 26

The first time you open a Daily Organiser dataset in Modern 26, you will be prompted to upgrade it.

This upgrade is required because Modern 2026 introduces a new data model that supports the additional functionality and is not compatible with Classic or Modern.

Once a dataset has been upgraded:

  • It can no longer be opened in Classic or Modern.

  • All users who access that dataset must use Modern 26.

  • The upgrade only needs to be completed once for each dataset.

Before upgrading, ensure all users who access the dataset are ready to move to Modern 26.

Switching between versions

To change your preferred interface:

  1. Click your Profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen.

  2. Select Profile.

  3. Scroll to the Daily Organiser Interface setting.

  4. Select Classic, Modern, or Modern 26.

  5. Save your changes.

Working with other users

All users accessing the same Daily Organiser dataset at the same time must use the same interface version.

Users can work together in:

  • Classic

  • Modern

  • Modern 26

However, different interface versions should not be used simultaneously on the same dataset.

If a dataset has been upgraded to Modern 26, all users must access that dataset using Modern 26.
